Bio4MatPro is an interdisciplinary competence center funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFTR). Since 2022, more than 50 partners from leading companies and renowned research institutions have been working together to develop the Rhenish mining region into a resource-efficient model region for the bioeconomy.

Our overarching goal is to manufacture high value-added products based on renewable raw materials and to establish scalable, cost-efficient production processes. Across 23 interdisciplinary research and development projects, we combine established production technologies, regional feedstocks, advanced materials science, and innovative biotechnological methods to implement the biological transformation along the entire value chain and promote a climate-neutral circular economy.
