How did the scientific partnership between Fraunhofer UMSICHT and Messe Düsseldorf come about, and what does it mean for the convention?

As the director of Fraunhofer UMSICHT and the leader of the Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy, I am delighted that Messe Düsseldorf and the Circular Valley Foundation approached us with the idea of designing the scientific program. Our longstanding and close partnership with Circular Valley made this collaboration a natural fit! For the participants of the convention, it means a perfect symbiosis of a systemic perspective combined with innovative individual solutions along the value chain.

Why is an exhibition for circular solutions necessary?

While there are established trade fair formats focusing on specific materials, technologies, industries, and industry segments, a trade fair dedicated to bringing together diverse solutions for achieving a circular economy is unprecedented. This exhibition showcases technologies, products, and materials at varying stages – from those nearing market introduction with a high technological maturity level to solutions already successfully established in the market. This format enables convention attendees to optimally prepare their companies for a circular future and forge meaningful alliances.

How does the convention contribute to improving collaboration between science and industry?

Every collaboration begins with trust. At Fraunhofer Institutes participating in the convention, we aim to strengthen existing trust and initiate new, trustworthy partnerships. Establishing something as transformative as a new economic system, which the circular economy represents, is only possible through strong and competent alliances! For this to succeed, society, politics, science, and industry must all be convinced and committed to shaping the future together.

Which topics and speakers of CVC 2025 are you most excited about?

Great question, and there can only be one answer: I am eagerly looking forward to every single contribution over the two days and won’t miss a minute. The biggest challenge will be absorbing even a fraction of the wealth of highlights. That’s why I’m not coming alone but bringing my team with me!
